I wonder how many people read flandersnews.be. Rest assured, the Dutch version is bad enough, but when they start talking about the VW “Beatle”, well, let’s just say there are better news sources.
While we’re on the subject, personally, I think the fact that a couple thousand people got laid off is no reason to be protesting for days or weeks on end. Companies are allowed to do severe restructuring and they can sure as hell favor the local economy, even if that means sacrificing a more productive branch. You’d sure as hell take the same course of action. The soon to be former employees have as little reason to be all over the media as people who are the victim of more isolated layoffs. I’m not saying losing your job isn’t a big deal, but from what I hear, the jobs weren’t that great to begin with, and most of them shouldn’t have too much trouble finding a new job. Plus, they’ll be given a nice bonus on their way out. So what makes them think they have a right to behave like savages and slam windows, burn flags and go on loud marches? For fuck’s sake.
Update: Apparently, they fixed the spelling in the article. Sadly, the URL still shows obvious traces of incompetence.
