I’m Sold
We’re all allowed to make mistakes, including me. In the past, I’ve repeatedly bashed the iPhone. I was convinced it was an overpriced feature-lacking eyesore. But if Chris Pirillo can come around, so can I.
And come around, I did. That’s right, people: I bought an iPhone. And let me tell you, those bitches aren’t easy to come by in Belgium. Luckily, well-connected as I am, I got my hands on one.
So I’m currently looking at my blog on my brand new 8 GB iPhone’s crisp high-resolution display. I won’t go as far as writing a post on it, even though the on-screen keyboard is actually very intuitive and I don’t miss tactile feedback as much as I had thought. As far as the rest of the user interface goes, well, needless to say I had my reservations, but it’s growing on me. Multi-touch is a treat once you’re used to it. I’ve been happily sliding and pinching all evening.
And sure, the iPhone may not have 3G or the ability to record video, but it’s not like I’d ever use those things. I can make calls, send texts and play music and videos—that really is plenty. The bottom line is, it’s a shiny new toy for me to play with, and I can’t deny my self-confidence will get a little boost every time I see someone salivate at it.
Of course, I had to install iTunes to get the latest firmware for my new toy, but it’s a small price to pay. And while we’re on the subject, iTunes is not as bad as I remember. It’s snappy, it can play all my music (with some extra QuickTime components), and the little bit of extra memory it needs is well spent on its delicious theme. I’ll still stick with foobar2000 for now though, since it suits my needs better.
So there you have it. I guess I’ve made the switch. Over the next couple of days, I’m planning to do a couple more posts on my experience with my new gadget, because I know you’re all dying to hear my take.
As I won’t be needing my old Samsung SGH-E870 anymore, feel free to contact me if you’re interested in buying it. It’s good as new.
Notice: This was an April Fools’ Day post. Congratulations to everyone who fell for it. If I do end up buying an iPhone, you’ll be the first to know.
