Size Matters

Today, I came across Sizer. Both simple and elegant, this free Windows utility allows you to resize windows to predefined dimensions and adds a tooltip with the window’s exact pixel width and height while resizing.

The many, many geeks among you will no doubt recognize this feature from various elitist X window managers. Sizer not only brings it to Windows though, but it also makes it more accessible.

One thing I’ve noticed though is that Sizer is a bit quirky when used on Firefox; specifically, the tooltip won’t always show up. I’m pretty sure this is Mozilla’s fault for the most part, what with all the XUL hacking that’s going on. I’m contemplating filing a bug, but I probably won’t.

Personally, I consider Sizer a great companion to Taskbar Shuffle, which I’ve mentioned before: both of these cute little utilities seamlessly add functionality that probably should have been there to begin with.

Two other “should have been there to begin with” which I find interesting are PowerMenu and PureText, you may want to give’em a try.

Now those are nifty, thanks! I could have used both of them on numerous occasions. Too bad we’re stuck with PureText’s awful tray icon.
