Over the past couple of days, the Mozilla Blogosphere has rapidly become infested with the Seven Things virus. It was a matter of time until it would reach me, and lo and behold, it did.

So here goes. Seven things you may or may not know about me …

1. I don’t eat any chocolate or anything deep-fried. I used to have pretty bad acne and, contrary to what physicians will tell you, I did notice a tremendous improvement the moment I adapted my diet. After years without consuming any of the stuff, I now harbor a strong resentment towards it. The smell of chocolate even makes me nauseous nowadays.

2. I’m asocial. Antisocial, even. In Dutch, we rarely use the latter, which is a shame. I don’t just refrain from engaging in social contact, I act against it. Anybody who knows me a little will agree on that and I’m sure I’ve offended a few people over the years. I could say I was sorry, but I’d be lying. Don’t take it personally.

3. I don’t have a driver’s license. About two years ago, I took lessons and got a temporary license, but I never took the exam. I never really had any incentive. Every place I go to has public transport. Moreover, driving in the city center made me nervous as hell, and even the freeway wasn’t fast enough. When I’m on a bus or train, I feel relaxed and I can even get some work done. Besides, owning a car would cost a shitload of money as well.

4. Back when I was ten or so, I wanted a leather jacket. I think I’d seen it on TV and it looked cool. So, instead of being a sensible parent, my mom got me one. The kids at school made fun of it and that was the end of that chapter.

5. I admire Regi Penxten. Really. A lot of people will criticize Milk Inc. and yack about the pounding bass drum and the quick-fix lyrics, but the fact of the matter is, a lot of their songs really are damn well composed and arranged. Regi caters to an audience which is more censorious than you’d think, and the guy may look like a douche, but he knows exactly what he’s doing.

6. I’m a terrible swimmer. It took me years until I learned how to do it, mainly because I was afraid. I much prefer standing on solid ground to floating in pool water. The bi-weekly swim classes in elementary school were an absolute nightmare for me. Evidently, I don’t do much swimming anymore. To this day, I haven’t done any sort of diving, and I have no intention of doing so either.

7. I’m myopic. For years now, I’ve rarely been able to read the blackboard at school. It’s never resulted in any insurmountable barriers, so I have yet to see an optometrist. I guess, with a lot of people, the main obstacle is pride. In my case, it’s mostly laziness, perhaps combined with not wanting to deal with regularly picking out a frame that doesn’t repulse me. And there’s no way in hell I’m ever putting in contacts.
